Moons ago, there were four clans living in a forest entirely their own. More or less, there was peace in their land. But all of that changed as a terrible drought spread across the territory of one particular clan. It was BrookClan, where cats made their home on an expanse of grassy, rolling hills. They had only a single brook to bring them water. But, in the terrible drought, the brook began to dry up and prey became very scarce. Their leader, a she-cat named Fernstar, decided to do all she could to save her clanmates. Since none of the other clans would give BrookClan more land to survive on, Fernstar had to enlist the help of a group that would make the other clans give up land. Her hired help was a group of fighting foxes led by the black vixen Kolette.

But things began to get out of hand. Kolette's followers were soon killing cats from all clans, not helping BrookClan in the least. Finally, things had gone too far. But it was too late to get rid of Kolette. She rather liked the forest of the clans, and decided to make it her own. The other three clans, RavineClan, TealClan, and CherryClan, decided that they would flee the forest and find a new home. Fernstar begged them to let BrookClan join them, but, furious, the other clans refused, turning their backs on the weakened clan.

For moons, the three clans traveled. At last, they found home in an expanse of forest called Taragoff Park. There, they found much prey, strange new allies, and even stranger new enemies. But they settled in nonetheless, making Taragoff their home.

But all is not well in the forest. More than one power rises to challenge the ways of the newcomers. The clans certainly have reason to worry. For their most formiddable enemy is the one they created.
