The air was crisp and cool, like a breath straight from the heart of the stream. The water currented gently over smoothed stones, the sound like a queen hushing her kits. A few leaves flickered across the ground before being picked up by the supple breeze and carried off to nowhere. The sky was beginning to darken; a few fireflies winged about in the deeper shadows.
xx by street light this dark n i g h t xx
Four faded gray paws flicked across the grass, headed down towards the whispering of the stream. Two silver ears swivled towards the sound. Two eyes looked down into the water, watching the untaught paths of the miniscule fish that lived there. A slender paw slipped forward, submerging itself into the water. A shiver danced up her limb as she pressed her pad against a cold stone at the bottom. Leaning forward, she extended her tongue and lapped at the water. Straightening again, she lifted her paw back up to shore. Standing once more, she padded further along the bank.
Usually during this time, in this place, the she-cat thought. Her mind wandered far beyond what she usually allowed it. It traveled back. Usually to places she didn't want to be, sometimes to sweet moments, sometimes to painful ones, but she let it, for if she didn't, eventually, she would break. And that couldn't happen. Everything she had worked so hard to erase would come back. Permanently.

Grayfur;; RiverClan Learn to love pain

A silver head lifted from the shadows in which he lay, blue azure eyes danced nervously around the land. His long haired pelt rubbed up against the hard tree bark. he opened his mouth ti withdraw the scents around him. Life flourished, but grayfur was dead inside.

he sniffed the bark of teh tree. Smelled wer, as if someone had been here. Azure eyes flashed twoards teh stream, where a young gray cat sat. he grimaged and bared his teeth. He didn;t like strangers, adn this cat smelled fishy. Padding up to her, he bared his teeth, growling a bit.

Clo? Was she just like Cloudystar? A warped traitor who was constantly switching mates? Or did she remind him of Axel an evil manipulator who chased after males and was a discrase to all cats. Choking, he cleared his throat.
"In case you haven't noticed, you are on RiverClan terratory."

The she-cat jumped. She turned around abruptly, causing her back paw to miss the shore and splash into the water. Painfully aware of her own ungracefullness, she pulled it out quickly and took a small step away from the edge. "I noticed," she hissed, "I live here." She examined the other in the dark, trying to make out who it was. The scent seemed familiar, but the name escaped her. She forced herself to flatten her fur. She desperately tried to regain control over her thoughts - to bring them back here, to the present.

Pushing the tainted memories from her head at last, she narrowed her green eyes, and peered into the shadows. "Come out where I can see you," she demanded. The cold from her back leg was seeping up towards her flanks, and she suddenly noticed the night's chill. "Only a kittypet hides from a warrior." She wondered who the tom was. She had heard him choking before he spoke, and an unquestionably miserable feel came from him.

Gray showed no meotion, instead, he leadne up agiasn tthe tree, his whispy gray fur intertwined in the small branches. This cat... she seemed... beautiful. Just the way here eyes looked, her fiery expression.

"I noticed," she hissed, "I live here."
He snorted, and frowned backing inot the shadows. Who cared anyway? he'd chased warriors out of his territory many times. Looked fishy. Grayfur cocked his head to one side, not bothering to move. "Obviously not," h muttered, his voice cut up with sorrow and despair.
the old warrior spat ot the ground, and placed his paw over it. Refusing to look up, his azure eyes dug deep into the grassy plains, his feeth bared, but his lips closed. "Stupid," he muttered. "Everyone's an idiot."

Grayfur sighed again and looked away, not meeting the silver eyes cat. Glancing back a bit, he announced softly. "Maybe I am. Why would you care?" Grayfur was really losing it. He did not care if he died or lived.

The she-cat flexed, her claws digging into the cool ground. Still she skimmed the shadows with her eyes. All she could see were the cat's eyes, an emotional pool of deep azure. Her fur prickled with uncertainty. She knew this cat from somewhere, but still she couldn't place a name. She took another bold step towards him; a warning. Just as she did so he spoke: "obviously not." A hiss passed her lips. "How dare you doubt my place in RiverClan? You don't even know me."

Her mind reeled. She had finally gained control of it, but all this, and this tom, confused her. "Stupid," he called her. Her eyes opened wider, then narrowed quickly. Her claws ached to rake through his fur. If only she could see him. "Maybe I am." he spoke again. "Why would you care?" The she-cat bared her pearly white fangs, the starlight glinting off of them threateningly. A growl rose in her throat. "I don't care. All I want to know is who you are. Now show yourself!"

Grayfur blinked lazily. She was just like all the others. Yaowning, he hept his possition at the dre, his eyes half open, staring a her lazily. he twitched his muzzle and his tail moved a fraction. She was just like her, like him. Would she do as a good mate? No, she had to much pride. She was blinded by power, and that bothered the silver warrior.

Grayfur shrugged, and continued to stare at her, his head resting agaisnt the cool tree trunk. He was so carefree, blue eyes resting sleepily on a fly on a tree trunk. "Don't have to." he muttered sleepily and he closed hsi eyes as a calming wind errupted from think air. It felt good aganst hsi pelt. "I don't care anymore." His voice was so calm, but it hid pain that was unseeable.

Grayfur stepped from out of the shadows to expose himself. His pelt was rippled in blood and a long scar ran down his left eye. His once silver and white cur was not a dull brwon, and it was messy. he sighed and shrugged. Turning away, he jeered, "Funny, you don't even know your own deputy."

OOC: [/b] "My Brother" ...? BIC: The femme tried to pick up something - anything - that might explain to her this creature's attitude. Those eyes were so sad, that voice so hollow... It almost made her feel sorry for him. Almost. She continued to glare, standing her ground, tail now lashing back and forth angrily. This was getting old. There it was again, a hollow reply: I don't care anymore. " Miserable fleabag," she muttered. xx no one knows you a n y m o r e xx And then suddenly, she could see him. His pelt was matted in blood and grunge, a scar open and bleeding above his eye. Her tail stopped lashing, and she stared. Grayfur! She crouched low to the ground, her pelt quivering uneasily. Her pale eyes lowered to stare at the ground. " Grayfur! I... I'm sorry. I didn't recognize you. I - I couldn't smell you, and you didn't...sound...like yourself." She looked up, afraid of what he might do to her. How could she not have recognized him? xx open up your e y e s xx[/blockquote]

Grayfur frowned. She wasn't much of a site for sore eyes either. And that voice, that musical melody. It pulled his heart strings. He gave her a sad look, not bothering to smile.
"Miserable fleabag,"
He smiled at her ferocity. He loved it. She was just like him, a lonely soul lost in the darkness of the forest, no where to wander.

Grayfur muttered something, and a single tear trickled down his scarred face. This was not how he always looked. In the past, grayfir had been a brave and noble warrior. But all that had changed when he met Axel. The new RiverClanner had stolen Cloudystar, his only love, away. And now spike was driving Axel out. It was all too much. After losing the battle between axel and spike, grayfur had fled deep into the forest. He wished he could just murder himself. He no longer cared what he looked like or how he acted. He just moped around camp.
"Grayfur! I... I'm sorry. I didn't recognize you. I - I couldn't smell you, and you didn't...sound...like yourself."
Grayfur sighed. He looked away, his scarred face facing the noble she-cat. He looked at the ground. "I'm not myself," he replied to her statement. "I never will be." At that moment, something stuck at his heart, and tears. "If it doesnt matter if I laugh or cry, then I won't smile. it just makes me tired!" Quiet sobs escaped his beaten up throat and his Azure eys clouded with mist.

As she watched, it became obvious he wasn't going to reprimand her. Instead, he cast her a forlorn gaze. She could only blink as she rose slowly to her paws. She tilted her head and narrowed her eyes, bemused. She watched as a smile spread across his lips. It was an old smile, dejected and unfamiliar. The she-cat couldn't help but flinch.

He was talking to her, as if trying to explain himself. He was turning his head away, as if he was ashamed. I'm not myself. I never will be. I won't laugh, I wont's smile, it only makes me tired... Her mind flashed back, carefully, not to far, to brief scenes of the deputy, hanging around camp; hanging back from groups of cats. And then, unexpectedly her mind began to take her back further, just a bit, just enough to...

The tom started to sob, ripping her from her private thoughts. She let out a sharp exhale, yet softly. She painfully realized how little control she had.. Composing herself once more she looked up, watching him as he cried. She shuffled one of her paws, unsure what to do in the presence of a deputy with an emotion break down.

Grayfur squeezed his eyes shut trying to keep the tears in. Small silver drops spilled over the bloodstained grass and it grew dark. His fur bristled as dark winds breezed around. His dark blue eyes widened as he opened them. His crying ceased.
[ w e v e s o u g h t t h e a n s w e r s f o r s o l o n g ]
Thoughts buzzed inside him and his pupils grew to thin slits. His world turned blorry and memories gushed out from inside wounds. "I love you cloudystar." "Get your paws off her!" "You'll be damned!" "Why, Clo, why him?" "I HATE YOU!" His mouth gaped open as old woulds started to bleed inside him again. Even outer woulds: scars and scratches, gushed open, spurting up red liquid. Grayfur didn't even noticed. His mouth just gaped open, his eyes mere slits.
[ b u t t h e y ' r e n o t f r e e ]
Grayfur murmured something, the side of his face, sluttering blood. A pool of liquid sat under his paws as blood diripped down his sides, his aqua blue eyes dimming and dimming. I'm going to die, he thought to himself. Tears mixed with blood and water dribbled down his face, and a small cut in his forehead let out a long stream of crimson.

Hrayfur opened his mouth a little wider to let a sea of blood pour out, covering his chim, running down his chest. His eyes grew hazy, and he let out a cough, shooting out the red liquid. What was going on? His legs fell from under neath him, and he crashed, his body helplessly on its side, a pool of liquid gathering around him. His eyes started to close, adn he let out a moan. "C-c... Cloud..." His eyes drooped and closed, and he coughed again, a small shower of blood oozing ou of his mouth. "I... love... you..." He fell unconcious of blood loss.

xx what tragedy, why can't we seem to keep it t o g e t h e r xx
The she-cat stared. It was all she could bring herself to do. It was if the tom completely fell apart, a victim to his misery. Like her, his memories tormented him... but would she ever come to this? She shuttered, and smothered the thought. Her eyes traced the tom's scars and followed the path of his blood. It was all free flowing, no more secrets, no more lies. This was Grayfur at his core.
xx my heart is darker than these o c e a n s xx
Her origional thoughts of insolence returned. This was not the tom she knew. This was someone else, someone entirely different. A solitary soul, tortured and maltreated, drowning himself in self pitty. Careless with his own life and Clan, indifferent in whether he lived or died. No, this was not the Grayfur she knew, and it sickened her.
xx storm clouds g a t h e r i n g beside me xx
A feeling pooled at the pit of her stomach. There he was, bleeding, crying, and all she could do was stare. It was gruesome, grating both her mind and her eyes. The feeling grew and expanded until it filled her stomach, and she could feel it coming up her throat, hot and uncomfortable, and then she vomited. Her sides were trembling. Blinking her eyes harshly, she stepped forward, into the shadows, and peered down at him. He was mumbling something, eye wide open as he bled. "Where's your sense of dignity?" she hissed. "Look at yourself..."
xx don't look the other w a y xx
Her voice shook, and she swallowed back more vomit. She watched as his eye began to drift closed. "You call yourself a warrior?" She growled. Stepping over the figure, she proceeded on towards the treeline. Pausing, she looked over her shoulder, and among all of her disgust and disdain, a flash of sympathy. Yes, she would get help. Not for him, but for the warrior he once was. "Hold on." And then she sprinted off into the forest, partially out of impatience to get out of that place, but also to get help.

A trickle of red cromson ran down his chin. He opened his eyes slightly, and forced his head up, to spit out a weak call. "Paintedhaze... I ... love you... Blood gushed out of his mouth as he tried to stop the beautiful riverclanner. "Gaal" he sputtered, amking the situation all the more worse.
