This numbing pain in her head was spreading rapidly. It had penetrated her mind, causing her eyes to glaze over and her blood to run cold. Her breath came in shallow gasps. Each step took more of her strength, and even more of her will. Desperation's head raised, peering up to the darkening sky. A small sigh escape her barely parted maw, quickly disappearing into the cold air. Her small paws slowed to a stop. Quietly, she turned and looked behind her. It was almost as if someone was accompanying her. The fleeting image of death broke into her minds. Desperation flinched, auds flattening against the back of her skull and furred lips pulling back into a snarl. She paused. Her lips set themselves back, and her pointed ears straightened. No one was there, and no one had been. She dropped her head and turned again, limping on. Loneliness burned in her mind. She shook her head, blue eyes squeezing shut. But all that came was the realization that she'd never truly had a friend. Even as her life seemed so perfect, back before everyone had died, she'd never had a friend. Desperation's eyes opened and stared at the grass in front of her. She remembered the feeling of the disgusted eyes on the back of her head. Out of instinct, she turned and peered behind her. No one. Shuddering from the cold breeze and her insecure thoughts, she turned back.

Her small body flattened against the trunk of a tree, as if she was trying to melt into it and get out of the bitter wind. Ice-cold water broke into her thoughts. A frigid gasp escaped her mouth, pulling away her breath. Her small head lifted and faced heavenward. Pelting rain was falling, drizzling down her frail frame. Desperation let out a choked sob. A fleeting sensation of being pushed under freezing water overcame her body. Her paws pushed her small body forward, but slid on the dampened ground and she collapsed. Her head lay still. Her blue eyes were opened wide with the shock of the fleeting cold, running down her body and disappearing for only an instant before another raindrop replaced it. A shuddering gasp ran from her mouth. It seemed hours before the flooding cold wasn't from the rain. Desperation struggled to sit up, but a burning pain burst into her head. Her claws fled from the sheaths in her paws and raked the ground as she attempted to stay sitting. The pain was like someone sitting on her chest, preventing her from breathing..
The rain before her eyes faded, and darkness blanketed her sight.
She could still feel. Every few seconds, a terrible pain would flare through her body before quickly fading. It seemed that whenever she inhaled, whenever her dark gray chest swelled, something didn't want her to breathe. The darkness was like simply closing her eyes; as she lay perfectly still and took only shallow breaths, she felt fine. But, as she shifted her position and slid her head to a different spot, panic rose in her chest and she remembered that her eyes were wide awake, staring at whatever lay in front of her. She sighed, hesitating before taking another breath. There was a sudden sharp pain in her head. Desperation, not expecting it, cringed. Her vision went white, as if a bright light had been turned on right in front of her eyes. As sudden as it came, the pain faded. Color was returning to the white world. Trees. Grass. Warmth.
