Brokensoul said nothing. He felt embarressed that he had followed a stale scent. Why had he felt so embarressed right now? He wouldn't be this embarressed around toms or probably other she-cats. He sighed and shook it off before running after Brightflame.
It was a windy day on the moor land, which made hunting and running harder but Brokensoul ran on. He pelt rippled in the breeze and his eyes flicked from one side of him to the other, looking for signs of life. He would once and a while stop to smell the air but there was nothing except stale prey.

"This is awful," mewed Brightflame, "Even yesturday there was more prey than this. Where has all the prey gone?" Her tail flicked back and forth in irritation. She pricked her ears at the tiniest sound of paws scrabbling on the ground. She shot forward, pinpointing the mouse by smelling it. She caught sight of the tiny creature trying to escape, but she pounced and caught it. At first she was happy, but after taking one look at the tiny mouse, Brightflame spat with disgust. "Look how small that thing it! It could barely feed an apprentice!" she glared at the mouse's body, and shook her head. What use was prey like this?

Brokensoul watched as Brightflame caught the mouse. He shrugged and sighed. "At least you caught something,"he pointed out and smelled the air again, He caught the faintest scent of vole. He followed it swiftly and quietly until he spotted an old skinny vole that was actually surprisingly large. He sprang and easily killed the vole. He trotted back to where Brightflame stood and dropped to vole where she had set her mouse. He looked proudly up at her. "Not all the prey has gone,"he meowed.

Brightheart smiled as she saw Brokensoul's catch. "I guess," she mumbled. She looked from Brokensoul's vole to her scrawny mouse. She sighed. "maybe I'm just a bad hunter," she groaned. She scratched dirt over her mouse. She would come back for it later. Her mouth watered at the sight of Brokensoul's vole.

Brokensoul dropped his vole and set some earth over it. He put a stray twig on top to mark the place. He then looked up at Brightflame with a surprised look. "Not a good hunter?"he exclaimed with wide eyes,"That's just pure luck." He motioned toward the vole that he had buried. "And besides it's old and stringy,"he added and began to search around the tall hill. Prey often made nests along the edges with the rocks and easily made holes.

Brightflame sighed. She got up to seek more prey. She caught the scent of blackbird on the wind, and her eyes grew huge as she scented the tempting smell. She looked around, searching for the bird. Where is it?! she thought with anger. She fallowed the scent down Tall Hill, then spotted it. Excitement made her charge at it. She missed, and the blackbird flew away. Brightflame spat. The shrill call the blackbird made would scare away all the remaining prey on Tall Hill. stupid... she cursed herself, I shouldn't have ran it! What was the point of learning to stalk prey, if I don't! Stupid, stupid...

Brokensoul watched her with an emotionless eyes. He sighed but said nothing. The scent of rabbit fluttered past him. His fur stood on end but then it laid flat when he didn't see it. Sighing, he trotted silently over to the place in which he had smelled the rabbit. He saw nothing except an old rabbit hole. Brokensoul padded over to it and looked in the hole. He opened his mouth to smell it and the smell was stale. He sighed and padded back over to the place where he had the prey laying.

Brightflame trudged back to Brokensoul. Her head down, and tail dragging in the dust. She sat down, and felt cold wind ruffle her fur. "This wasn't the best day for hunting," she sighed. She scraped her claws on the dry grass. "What should we do now? I sort of... scared off all the prey." she felt her fur growing hot with embarrasment, and she did not meet Brokensoul's eyes.

Brokensouls sighed and shook his head. "You didn't scare away all the prey,"he meowed almost encouragingly,"I'm sure there has to be more prey around here." He smelled the air again and shrugged. Nothing was there except stale scents. "Lets go somewhere else,"he suggested with a shrug.

Brightflame thought for a moment. "We could go to the Drop. In Green-Leaf, there are lots of rabbits there. There might be some that remain..." she trailed off. WindClan's rabbits were becoming fewer and fewer. What was the chance that they would find any now that Leaf-Bare had hit? She shrugged.

Brokensoul shrugged. "Sure,"he meowed. He looked in the direction of the Drop and picked up the prey they had caught. "Lead the way,"he meowed through the fur of the prey and nodded.
