Grayfur sighed and hung his head. This was when it got slow. usually there was arguing. Grayfur hated fights, but it was useless to try to stop them. He wished he had something interesting to say, but he was sure Cloudystar would never let him speak. he gazed around, looking for females. He wanted a mate really badly, but no one was interested in an uptight, cruel deputy. Mabey he should try his luck.
Looking at Cloudystar once again, he crept over to her side.

[ ooc ]dewstream and grayfur are (going to be) mates right? o.O i thought thats what we said...
Dewstream sat under the large tree, wishing that she had planned this day a bit better. She almost didn't go to the Gathering, but she came back with a very successful catch. It made her feel--oh what was the word--extrodanarily individual. She looked over shoulder, watching a group of apprentices frolicking after each other. If only she was that small, to be able to hop around with as much energy as a fish.
But wishing she was young just made her feel old.

Echostar's ears twitched at Dreamstar's yowl for the gathering to start. His molten eyes glowed and he weaved away from the tree he'd seated himself by. Padding out of the shadows for a bit, the tom gazed at Dreamstar. His bi-colored eyes gazed at her with a look of anguished longing and anger. It wasn't fair that he had to hide what he felt, what he wanted to show. It wasn't fair that he couldn't be allowed too near to her, to protect her. The unborn kits in her made his belly churn. It was just unfair. But that was how it was supposed to be.
Languidly sliding out of the shadows, he paused to gaze at the moon. It was a full orb, glowing brightly and almost hotly. He swallowed hard, it burned more than the sun did in some way. Maybe because it was the only witness he knew to his secret.
And her secret.
Shaking his head softly, the bengal tom padded quickly to the Oak, leaping into its branches and settling himself. He whispered softly to the silver she-cat, "Dreamstar, we're starting now?"

[ooc;] Yes. [bic;] Newtpaw looked mournfully at his friend. "I'm okay," he mewed, not sounding okay at all. "I guess I'm just..." Dreamstar's yowl cut him off. He settled down a little, and looked up at the leaders. He felt a faint flare of excitement as the leaders began to make their way toward the rock. He spotted Echostar, and flicked his ears. The tom was much bigger than him. Newtpaw felt skinny and frail here among all these great warriors.

Honeypaw quivered with excitement. The gathering was about to start-her first gathering! Her eyes shone with delight, as she gazed up at the leaders. She realized that the leaders looked uneasy - Dreamstar and Echostar at least. What will happen tonight? she asked herself. She suddenly felt nervous- anxious at what would happen tonight. She croutched low to the ground, and waited.

The RiverClan leader's achromatic silver gaze reflected a small amount of worry. However, her blank face remained smooth, impassive. Why couldn't anything go well in her life? She watched the identical troubled looks on Echostar's and Dreamstar's faces, watched the apprentices mingle, watched the medicine cats gossip. It didn't seem fair, how all of them were so comfortable, so happy--it made her envious in the slightest degree. She shivered. She didn't even really know why she felt so..alone. It was probably because she was alone, with few or no companions to confide in. She was afraid, so afraid that someone would betray her and spill everything unto the Clan, that she didn't take her chances making new friends. Sure, she had old friends...but they had given up by now. Most of them, anyway. She sighed and glanced at Grayfur, glad that he was still a close friend. Somewhat close, anyway...why would he, of all cats, want to waste his time trying to help some emotionally ruined leader? She wanted him to remain friends, to trust her, to save her from herself. Or something. The dark silver cat shook her head from side to side, trying to rid herself of the depressing thoughts. And this would be why she was probably so messed up. Thinking is, in fact, a most dangerous pasttime.

Grayfur turned to his leader, bewilderment clouding his expression. He wasn't quite sure what was going on, but it wasn't good. Looking around, there were not as many RiverClan cats as he would have expected. But the gathering was long, and he was sure that more would come. "Cloudystar?" asked the gray tom. "Would you like to tell me anything important? I cna share it with the others." He was sure that this would be a true dissapointment, and that he wouldn't get to say anything. He was higher ranked than most cats, but was quiet and withdrawn. As hard as he tried, he was usually blocked out by the others. Grayfur really wanted to talk. He was looking foreward to this gathering more than anything else, and he wanted to prove to his leader that he could do things right. Sadly looking up at the full moon, he thought about Cloudystar and, if she even felt anything for him. A small tear trickled down his cheek.

At Dreamstar's yowl, Astercoat rose to his paws and padded over to the Oak. There was hesitation in his step, and tremble in his whiskers, but he knew that it was time for the rest of the Clan's to hear about his new duty to ShadowClan. His new life.
A great leap brought him to one of the sturdy branches of the great tree. His claws dug in tight, as he maneuvered himself into a comfortable position. Astercoat took a deep, shaky breath, and focused his metallic gaze on Dreamstar, the leader of ThunderClan.

Spikeshard almost jumped to his paws when Dreamstar had let out a yowl as a signal for the Gathering to start. The inquisitive tom pricked his silver ears and his sapphire eyes glowed like gems in the strong moonlight. The RiverClan warrior felt excitement quiver in his belly. He secretly and selfishly wished that the leaders would get on with the Gathering quicker. Spikeshard's curious mind pulsed to know the reason behind the building tension that was almost painfully obvious on the island. The silver bengal glanced up at Echostar, Dreamstar, Cloudystar, and strangely enough Astercoat sitting on the oak. The tom rose to his paws and his whiskers quivered in growing excitement. Something was going to be let out and it was about happen soon.

Topazpaw hissed in disbelief as she saw Astercoat padding up to the Oak. She twitched her ears, blue eyes full of understanding. That was what the vision had meant! Astercoat was meant to lead ShadowClan! Breifly she got to her paws, then sat down again, blinking up at Astercoat with new confidence in her sapphire eyes. They had a leader. Hopefully everything would smoothen itself out now...

Dreamstar dipped her head as Astercoat approached the Oak. She tried to hide the confusion and mingled curiosity in her gaze from him, as she wondered to herself, Will he be the strong leader that ShadowClan needs so badly? As he took his place on the Oak branches, she inched closer to him, and murmured in his ear, "Would you like to speak first?"

Iceheart stared up at his leader; Astercoat. He knew that the cat would do just fine. He sat up, and he gave him a faint smile. He heard is stomach growling. He looked around nervously, hoping no one had heard him. This was a hard, cold Leaf-bare. But he knew Astercoat would pull ShadowClan through. The full moon shone brightly overhead.

Elmheart nodded to Flightfoot in greeting, then turned his attention briefly to the leaders. They had not started speaking yet. "How is WindClan?" Elmheart asked the other medicine cat, green eyes piercing. Flightfoot looked well enough, Elmheart did not think there could be anything badly wrong. His head tilted, he waited for a response.

Astercoat dipped his head in gratitude, trying to match Dreamstar's formal tone. He waited for the cats' in the clearing to fall into some sort of silence, before proceeding. "I, Astercoat, warrior of ShadowClan, am stepping up to take the new responsibilities of a Clan leader upon myself." He paused, wondering what the reaction would be to his news. "I am ready to step up, and be strong for the sake of my Clan. Whatever hardships we've suffered over the past moon will be forgotten." He continued, "Silentstar's death will not be forgotten quickly, nor will Redclaw's. The Clan will continue to grieve for the cats that's lives were taken when sickness swept through ShadowClan. But we remain strong. The sickness has left our camp completely, and we will only grow stronger from here. ShadowClan will live on." He rose his head proudly after he finished his small speech, hoping for some cheers of support from his Clanmates. With a flick of his ears, and a swish of his tail, Astercoat continued. "I have not yet received my name and my nine lives from StarClan, but I must be sure that my Clan is strong enough to cope before I leave. I have decided on the new ShadowClan deputy, though the ceremony hasn't taken place yet." He searched out the feline in the crowd, before calling her name out. "Aurorafrost is the cat I have chosen." Astercoat shook his head, and a shaky feeling ran through his body, from nose to tail tip. He was glad that was over and done with.
