. newtpaw .
Deep, sea-green pools glared up at the rising sun. The pools, eyes, in fact, bore a reflerction of the bright, hot circle, but also a burnt in emotion - confusion. The lithe black tom, the owner of the eyes, swished his long tail in impatience. His whole body seemed tense. As a tiny rustle sounded from a bush, he flinched.
Newtpaw sighed, looking at his paws. He was thirteen moons old now. And still not a warrior. Flicking his ears in annoyance, he looked bitterly at the pile of fresh-kill in front of him. He had hunted, fought, and spoke up for RiverClan. He had been to Gatherings and such. What was wrong with him?

<.Grayfur.> Let the darkness wash over me...
Grayfur paddedslowly up to his young apprentice. He had not seen much of Newtpaw and knew they needed to get back to training. His heart wasn't into it today, but he foreced a smile to the young apprentice. "You ready?" he asked, but it was more like a lonely whisper. His eyes still looked sad, but Grayfur knew how to make newtpaw's day better.
"Sorry I haven't been around much," he apologised sarcastically. His moods were changing rapidly, and right now, he felt like he wanted to strangle Newtpaw. No, he wanted to kill this...Axel, and he would use Newtpaw to do it. But the more he thought about his devious plan, the more he realized it would not work. His eyes fell to the ground and he gave a deep, unhapy sigh. [/center]

Newtpaw looked up as his mentor, his eyes breifly filled with happiness. But they clouded with confusion as he noticed a glint in his mentor's eye. He didn't like it. "Its'.. okay." He picked up the sarcastic note in Greyfur's voice, and frowned. What was going on in his mentor's head?

Grayfur sighed. "You'll.. understand later," he assured the older apprentice. Gray was well aware that Newtpaw had no training and such, but it was only becasue Grayfur had made it so. Now as he looked at the old apprentice, he realized what he ahd done.
"So... do you need to learn anything else?" he asked, his voice filled with boredom. He really wasn't in the mood. He glanced at Newt. "Or ya think you're worthy for a warrior spot?"

Newtpaw suddenly cracked. All the impatience indignance, sadness and confusion of the past moon or so burst from his mouth in a tirade of again. "It's not like you really care, is it? You just pretend to care so you won't look bad! Your a rubbish deputy, and a rubbish mentor! I hate you, you never did anythjing for me!" The tom got to his paws, his eyes gleamind dangerously, black fur bristling, claws unsheathed. A hiss escaped his mouth as he glared at Greyfur.

Grayfur didn't even blink. His words stung, but they were true. He was a horrible deputy and mentor. He never had even gotten a change to train with Newt becasue of his issues with...
Cloudn't think about that. Gray shut his eyes tight and tried to bock out the thoughts that came to him. Newt had no idea what was going on, and never would. he was too dense.
"Do what I tell you. Listen," he began as he got close to newtpaw. "Don't ever, ever, listen to Axel, got it? And you never answered my question."

Newtpaw glared at his mentor. "I don't care," he spat. "Do what you want with me. RiverClan's not the sane as it once was. And why would I listen to that rogue?" The apprentice began to groom himself, showing just how passed caring he was of the situation.
