Paws thudded quietly along soft, lush ground, the path illuminated by blurry moonlight. In those post-midnight hours, two cats loped back to the Riverclan camp, one blending in perfectly with the shadows, a dark tabby, and one a fiery orange shade. Above the felines and their territory, the sky was a dark, deep indigo, speckled with stars and with one giant splotch they called the moon.
You are my only one.
There was something tense in the air. The two cats weren't running from something. They were heading to the camp, to their fate. They were going to the camp to decide their destiny. The shadowy cat, the Riverclan leader, the female, Cloudystar, led in front. Behind her was the fiery orange tom, the playful troublemaker, Axel, going to join his mate's clan.
But I can't, I can't give you a reason.
The camp was coming up close. Turning around to glance at the cat behind her, the Riverclan leader half-smiled. "Are you ready to run the gauntlet?" she whispered, slowing until she was side by side with Axel. "I'll lead you straight to my den. They won't bother us there until morning. We've got a good few hours to relax."

Axel nodded. he wan't to sure of the whole process. he had never met a Clan cat except for Cloud. He looked up at the sky. It was growing light, meaning day would soon be here.
Axel looked around. There were no cats to be seen except for a small black kit. it saw the two and bounded over, long black fur bouncing up and down.
"HI Cloudystar!" Ashkit mewed happily. he looked at Axel with pure hate. "Ew, what's he here for?" [/blockquote]

The leader cringed. She raised a small silvery paw and gently pushed the kit in the direction to the nursery. "Shh. It's a secret," she mewed quietly, smiling softly at the tiny kit. "So don't tell anyone, 'kay sweetie?" She lifted her head and glanced at Axel, cringing in sheepish sentiment. "Let's go," she muttered, picking up a fast, clumsy trot to her den.
When she reached her dwelling, she continued in without thought, her silvery eyes immediately getting used to the familiar gloom. She turned around and yawned. Too close.
Laying down in a bed of cool moss, she sighed and unsheathed her claws, kneading her small paws on her bedding nervously. "Well, at least we made it," she murmured jokingly, the humor in her voice weak with anxiety. "That kit better go straight to the nursery and not mention it to anyone..."

Axel didn't react. He almsot stopped breathing. Staring into the cold night was a strange shape of a large grey cat. His lips were turned into a hate-filled snarl, his yellow eyes shining bright green in the dawn.
Axed relaxed and smirked slightly. "So, the great warriors has come," he sneered. Swishing his tail impationtly, he hissed and smiled evilly.
"Why are you here?" The grey cat asked, fear in his voice. His gase softened and tensed again. The grey cat backed up slowly.
"You're patetic," Axel sneered. Grayfur hung his head.
"I... suppose so," he muttered.

Duskpaw's paw was in mid air as she stepped quietly past the Leader's den. Pausing, she risked a glance inside. The rust-pelted cat that stood beside her Leader came into her veiw. A hiss escaped her barely-parted jaws, but her fur remained flat. She glanced to all the cats in the den, from Grayfur - she gave him a glare as her bright gaze passed over him indifferently - to Axel, again, and finally to Cloudystar.
Who is he?
She stepped closer, prepared to defend her precious Leader in any way.

Axel whirled around to see Duskpaw. he hissed harshly, and tried to leap, but stopped when he saw Clo. He relaxed and dipped his head. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that." He looked up and snirked. "Name's Axel. A-X-E-L, got it memorized?"

Duskpaw scowled, but nodded quickly to show she had heard.
So...What are you doing here?
The question even caught her off gaurd, and she looked down at her paws, her skin beneath flush a scarlet. She glanced up at Grayfur.
And don't you have somewhere else you need to be?
She snapped. She lashed her tail, and glared daggers at the gray cat. The loner, even if he turned out to be a rouge, seemed nice, especially so since Cloudystar hadn't made him leave yet.

Blueshadow was padding over to the fresh-kill pile to get something to eat. Her stomach growled and she longed to sink her teeth into a plump peice of prey. She stopped when she noticed the crowd by Cloudystar's den. She tilted her head to one side in confusment. A strange scent reached her scent glands. Her eyes opened wide in fear. It can't be. she told herself. The medicine cat sniffed the air again. Yes, it was definitely the smell of a rogue; or maybe just a loner. Curious, the gray she-cat padded over to peer over the shoulders of other cats. She stared in wonder. What was going on here? Who was this cat?

The Riverclan leader stood up furiously, quickly. "Outside!" she snapped, suddenly angry at the other cats. She growled threateningly and bared her teeth at all the cats gathered around her den, reaching silently backwards for Axel with her tail. "Outside! Now!" Cloudystar shouldered her way through the group of cats and leapt up on the Highrock, growling out a sharp command for the clan to gather below.
Inside, deep past the cold, angry exterior, Cloudystar was panicked. Adrenaline pumped through her system, making her extremely calm and collected. She was very scared for Axel, paying to attention to herself. Gray seemed submissive to the fiery orange cat, so maybe it wouldn't result in a fight...she was unsure.

Axel hung his head, but followed the others. He was unsure of all of this commotion. He glared at the deputy, but Grayfur got the idea. Axel grunted. He looked at Duskpaw.
"What do you think?" he asked harshly, a shark hated in his voice. This was just not his day.
"And I'm gonna stay, got it memorized?" he smirked at Duskpaw. Hoping to intimidate him, he let out a gentle hiss, and flashed his green eyes.

Newtpaw stood close beside Duskpaw, sea-green eyes narrowed slightly. His smoky black fur was bristling a little. He did not understand why this rogue was here, nor why Cloudystar seemed so angry at herclan. Newtpaw turned to face Duskpaw, eyes now round with confusion. The black apprentice glanced over at Greyfur, wiondering if his mentor would explain.

Duskpaw's head dropped, and she padded out, casting a look of pure disgust at Grayfur. She turned and prodded Newpaw with a paw.
C'mon. I want someone to sit with.
She mewed, flicking her ears towards Cloudystar, perched on the Highrock. Casting a worried glance to Axel and a glare at Grayfur, she turned away.

The young tom leaped out of the den and over to the Highstone. What is going on? And who is that orange cat? he wondered, peering over the shoulder of a warrior. The black apprentice grunted from not getting the perfect view, but ignored it and gazed up at his leader. He wanted to ask what was going on, but didn't. Listening was key, for the new comer didn't smell like a clan cat. Coalpaw glanced around, noticing the others muttering about this cat, Axel. Or at least that's what name Coalpaw heard. Was this cat to stay in the clan? And what would happen then? Would life just go on as normal? No, Coalpaw doubted that.
