A/N: yes, chapter two. I didn’t think that Vagabond would have a second chapter, but my friends begged me to write it. Please review. I would love to know what you think of the story. This is my second story with the addition to one poem. I have finally decided that this will be a series of 6 chapters.
Pain and How to Deal
By Darkenedflight and Serenity (gray)
Roxas woke up and yawned. Looking around him, he realized he was in his room. The pas night he had passed out from being sick; he didn’t know the disease. He yawned and stretched contently. Slowly sitting up, he felt a burst of pain in his stomach. Roxas winced and groaned loudly.
There were loud footsteps from outside Roxas’s room and the door flung open. Axel stumbled in, wearing a towel around his waist and his magnificent red spikes were flat from water. Gasping, Axel leaned against the door, panting heavily.
“Wha… what’s wrong?” he sputtered. Roxas only moaned in return and winced as sharp pain shot through his body like a thunderbolt. Axel’s eyes widened and he ran to Roxas’s bedside, leaning over him. “You OK?”
Roxas shook his head fiercely while small tears gathered in his eyes. Roxas shut his eyes and bit his lip to stop from crying, but small sobs escaped his throat and before he knew what was happening, he was crying bitterly, the tears running freely down his cheeks. Axel put his arms around him, holding him close.
“Shhh,” Axel murmured, “It’s ok. I’m here.” Roxas dug his fingers into Axel’s thick black uniform, crying uncontrollable tears. Axel could only stroke the blonde’s hair, comforting him with carefully planted kisses. Roxas ignored Axel’s attempts and pushed his face away, brushing away the tears that were forming in his eyes. His stomach churned with pain, and Roxas doubled over to throw up. Axel rubbed his back and wiped Roxas’s mout with a tissue.
“Feel better?” he asked. Roxas nodded and rested his head on Axel’s shoulder. Axel smiled and stroked Roxas’s cheek. Slowly, Roxas grew tired and fell asleep in Axel’s arms, warm and safe.
“Mmm,” Roxas muttered, closing his eyes. Axel grinned happily and tucked the young Nobody in bed.
“Night,” Axel cooed. Roxas grunted and rolled over, signaling that he needed sleep. The redhead got up and walked out, closing the door behind him. Behind him, Zexion was leaning against a post, a smug look on his face.
“How’s the little kid?” asked Zexion. Axel shrugged and continued to walk on.
“I dunno,” he replied, “Go ask him yourself.” Axel said sharply. He had problems with Zexions behavior, and was very protective over Roxas. It was as if he was the dad and Roxas was his son, in theory.
“Don’t tell me,” Zexion began, pushing himself off the post. “You have a thing for him?”
Axel grew tense, and clenched his jaw. “Maybe,” he spat. Turning his heel, he stormed off, leaving Zexion chuckling icily to himself.
Axel walked as far as the castle gardens and collapsed over the balustrades of the balcony. He sighed. His feelings for Roxas were more complicated than he though, and he didn’t expect anyone to know how he felt.
Leaving the gardens, Axel trudged through the dark hallways in search of something to do. He couldn’t go back up to Roxas’s room because he was sleeping. Maybe he could go annoy Demyx. That gave Axel a brilliant idea, so he rushed off to find some rope.
Demyx was in his room playing his sitar and singing. Next to him was Zexion, who looked about as happy as a rock. He grimaced when Demyx started singing loudly, and shut his eyes, hoping it would be over soon.
Axel chuckled. His plan would work beautifully. Keep singing, Demyx, Axel thought evilly. When Demyx’s voice was straining on the high notes, Axel tugged the rope. Above Demyx was a bucket of water set on a wooden plank. Oldest trick in the book, but Axel didn’t have time to skim through the Jokes R Us book.
Right when Demyx was singing the highest notes to his song, the bucket fell off the plank and water splashed over him, followed by the bucket making a perfect landing right on Demyx’s head. Demyx shook toe water off and rubbed his aching head.
“Well at least I don’t have to take a shower,” he commented. Zexion shook his head sadly.
“Where’d the water come from?” Zexion asked. He looked at the door suspiciously. Axel quickly pressed his back against the wall, holding laughter in. Finally, axel cound’t take it anymore. He burst out in laughter, rolling around on the floor.
“Did… did you… see the looks…. on your…. faces?” Axel asked between giggles. Zexion rolled his eyes.
“HEY!” Demyx screamed. “YOU MESSED UP MY SINGING!"
“That was the point!” Axel laughed. Demyx screamed angrily and chased Axel out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
Turning around, axel was surprised to see Roxas. His cheeks were wet from tears, and his cute blue eyes looked as sad as a basset hound’s. He was sniffling and wore a small pout.
“What’s wrong?” Axel asked nervously. Pulling his black cloak on, he walked over to Roxas.
“I… I…” Roxas stuttered, tears flowing from his angel-like eyes. Axel froze in fear, not knowing what to do. Without thinking, Axel took Roxas’s arm and dragged him over to a nearby bench, sitting him down.
“What happened?” Axel asked seriously. Roxas looked up at him, as if he was afraid to speak. He wimpered loudly and hung his head. “Come on,” Axel said, his voice tensing. This was not a good move. Roxas burst into fountains of tears, bawling his heart out. Axel panicked and pressed his had against Roxas’s mouth. Roxas pushed Axel’s hand away and ran to his room, crying the whole way.
Larxene was standing still while Roxas ran by. Looking quite amused, she turned to Axel, a quaint smirk on her face. “I knew he couldn’t do it,” Laxene said smugly.
Axel growled, “Do what?”
Larxene shook her head. “Ask him yourself,” she spat. Angrily, she spun around and walked away. “I’m gonna get 100 munny!” she chanted continuously.
Axel looked confused. What the heck was that about? And why did Roxas run off like that? Axel needed to know, so he set off to Roxas’s room.
Axel banged on the door. “Roxas,” he called, “Open the door!”
A small whimper came from the room. Axel sighed and banged the door again. “Roxas, please!” he cried. More whimpers.
Axel had had enough. Pure anger flowed through him. With an angry cry he burnt down the door, the flames immediately dying down after the door was a crisp. Roxas was lying there in his bed, his head buried deep into a pillow. He was shivering and small sobs came from the pillow. Axel immediately regretted what he had done.
“Roxas?” Axel whispered. Poor Roxas was so upset that he couldn’t even look up from his pillow. What had Axel done wrong? “Why are you up anyway? I thought you were sick.”
Roxas shook his head. “No,” he wimpered between sobs. “I… w-was going to g-g-get a drink a-and I s-saw Larx-Larx-Larxene and she t-t-told ma-me she wa-wanted to pa-play a g-game.” He took a deep breath and continued. “She-she said I-I had to do sa-something bef-before a c-certain ta-time, and she-she gave me… pills.”
Axel cocked an eyebrow. “Pills?”
Roxas’s body gave a few shakes before continuing. “they…they made me ga-get sick be-because I wou-wouldn’t d-do it.”
Axel nodded. “Go on,” he said.
Roxas cried harder. “S-s-s-so I g-g-got really s-sick… and I e-ended up h-h-here.”
Axel looked hat him hard. “When does the bet end?”
Roxas finaly looked up. His face was red and wet, and his eyes were glassy. Red sreaks covered his cheeks, and he looked tired. “R…Roxas,” Axel whispered. “What… what did she make you do?”
Roxas looked at him, pure sadness. Sadness that made axel almost cry. “She… She…” he broke down again, flailing his arms either which way, tears flowing like and lvoerflowed rover down his small face. Great, Axel thought. What did I do?
Roxas got up and ran down the hall, tripping over his cloak. He made such a racket, a few of the Organization members stuck their heads out of their rooms. Even Xenmas, who was passing by, got a little edgy as Roxas stormed through the halls into the dark, rainy night.
What did I do? Axel asked himself.
